Short Week, Long Feelings

All I’m Sayin’ Is…🫦
It’s about five-thirty on a Friday,
and
even though
it’s been a short week
because of the holiday,
it feels long.
Missing
my son
and
my grandsons
makes every day
stretch further than it should.
I got my work done.
Filing?
Well, there’s always
more filing
you can do 🤷🏾♀️.
Woke up
this morning
with a sore back
—could be from Scrappy,
who seems
to grow a little more
each day
and is taking over
my side
of the bed.
After
the usual
animal circus,
I stretched,
did some back exercises,
then finally
had my coffee.
I’m making progress
on my book,
but typing
isn’t my strongest skill.
I figure
I’ll get better
at it as I go.
It’s not
so much the typing,
though
—it’s the interruptions.
Now
I understand
why writers go away
to finish their stories.
You can’t get the images
in your head
down on paper
fast enough
when life keeps barging in
(especially when it’s your kids 🤦🏾♀️).
So here I am,
pausing
to write this entry
while my son
isn't standing over my shoulder talking.
Now my son
and daughter
went out
to grab groceries,
and I can slip back
into my imagination
for a while. 🌿
